Hall of Famer Wins Raffle Bike
Mary McGee Thrilled With BMW Sidecar Rig
AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Mary McGee (Class of 2018) is the winner of the Hall of Fame raffle bike, a 1973 BMW R75/5 sidecar rig restored by Jay Medieros of Vintage Triumph Supply in Bedford, Mass.
AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman drew McGee’s name from a drum containing all the raffle entries during the July 11 open house and bike night at the AMA campus in Pickerington, Ohio.
McGee, who learned to ride a motorcycle in 1957, was stunned to receive a phone call from Dingman.
“I almost fell over,” she said. “I just can’t believe it. I’m so excited.”
Also attending the July event was Kevin Dunworth of Dunworth Machines in Maryland, who built another AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame raffle bike.
The bike is a modern big-wheel hardtail spin on the museum’s “Lords of the Board Track” exhibit that pays tribute to Hall of Famers Eddie Brinck, Ralph Hepburn and Shrimp Burns.
The drawing for the custom motorcycle will occur during 2021 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. Dates for the 2021 event have not been determined.
