AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST OCTOBER 2018
Bob Moore’s 1994 YZ125
AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bob Moore’s 1993 250cc World Motocross Championship campaign ended painfully, with a leg fracture at the British Grand Prix.
For 1994, the veteran Motocross Grand Prix and 1985 AMA 125cc West Region Supercross champ made two changes—switching to the 125cc division and moving from Suzuki equipment to former world champ Michele Rinaldi’s Team Rinaldi Yamaha.
Moore’s YZ featured custom Team Rinaldi parts along with modifications from Yamaha Japan. It was fitted with Ohlïns suspension, a factory frame and hubs, and Pirelli tires on Excel rims.
With this bike under him, Moore dominated the start of the season winning four of five MXGPs, only challenged by Italy’s Alessio Chiodi.
By season’s end, Moore had won two more races and had become America’s third 125cc World Champion after Hall of Famers Donny Schmit (1990) and Trampas Parker (1989).
This championship-winning YZ125 is owned by Moore and currently on display at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Pickerington, Ohio.
