AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST MAY 2019

Shobert named Grand Marshal of 2019 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Honda

Hall of Famer Won Four AMA National No. 1 Plates On Hondas

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bubba Shobert has been named the grand marshal of 2019 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Honda.

The three-time AMA Grand National Champion and 1988 AMA Superbike Champion won all four of his AMA national championships on factory Honda machines, and is an ideal choice for the role as Honda celebrates several important anniversaries at the event.

This year marks 60 years since Honda founded its American subsidiary, as well as 50 years since the introduction of the ground-breaking 1969 Honda CB750 model. It has also been 40 years since the introduction of the six-cylinder Honda CBX model.

Shobert said he was excited to take on the role.

“I was a member of Team Honda for a long time,” said Shobert, who was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998. “Our factory teams in dirt track and road racing had a lot of success over the years. Coming back to Mid-Ohio for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, featuring Honda, will be a thrill for me—seeing a lot of old friends and fans and also all those vintage Hondas.”

The event takes place at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on July 5-7.
