Cooper Webb wins first AMA Supercross 450SX title

Sexton, Ferrandis Take Titles For 250SX East, West Classes

KTM rider Cooper Webb crosses the finish line at the conclusion of the 450SX Main Event in Las Vegas, capturing the 2019 450SX Class Championship.

Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton and Dylan Ferrandis put in championship-clinching performances May 4 at the closing round of 2019 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

All three held off challenges from championship rivals under the lights of Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas to claim their class titles.

Webb had the easiest path to a title that night, as the KTM rider needed only to finish 20th or better to claim the 450SX title.

While the only other rider mathematically alive in the 450SX title chase, Kawasaki rider Eli Tomac, won the 450SX Main Event, Webb’s third-place finish was enough for him to clinch his third career AMA Supercross title.

Webb won the 250SX West title in 2015 and 2016.

The biggest drama of the night belonged to the 250SX West title battle, as Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo started the night as the class points leader.

Ferrandis, riding a Yamaha, took the win in the 250SX Main Event, while Cianciarulo crashed and was unable to finish the race.

Ferrandis won the class title by 15 points.

Honda rider Sexton’s fourth-place finish in the combined East/West 250SX Main Event handed him the title by 13 points over Justin Cooper and his Yamaha.

Kawasaki rider Austin Forkner, who had led the class points standings most of the season before suffering a knee injury at the April 6 Nashville round, finished the season in third place.

The AMA Rookie of the Year Awards also were presented at the event.

Those awards go to the first-year riders who accumulates the most championship points in each Monster Energy AMA Supercross class.

For 2019, Kawasaki rider Joey Savatgy is the 450SX Class AMA Rookie of the Year, and Kawasaki rider Garrett Marchbanks is the 250SX Class AMA Rookie of the Year.
