AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST June 2020
Ups and Downs
Up
To Dave Sears of Alamo Cycle Plex in San Antonio and Kawasaki for giving a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja to nurse Mercedes Suarez. Suarez’s motorcycle was stolen, and the cost of repairing the recovered bike was more than the bike was worth. The new bike is equipped with a GPS tracking system that allows Suarez to track it from her phone.
Up
To Tony Cianci, the owner of Full Throttle magazine in Tampa, Fla., for providing a replacement motorcycle to Michael Guinn, whose bike was stolen while he worked 3D-printing thousands of PPE masks for healthcare workers in area hospitals. Cianci had planned to sell the bike but turned it over to Guinn on Easter Sunday after hearing his story.
Down
To the Richardson, Texas, City Council for voting against a special permit for the Motorcycle Training Center and forcing the business to close. MTC operated for more than 10 years in the parking lot behind the local Lowe’s Home Improvement Center, owner Chris Liftin told Community Impact Newspaper. Eight nearby residents opposed the permit, citing excessive noise from the school. But city Development Director Michael Spicer was unable to say for sure whether the city had ever received a noise complaint about MTC.
