Navy announces Fallon decision

Alternative 3 Chosen For Modernization

The U.S. Navy announced its decision to select Alternative 3, the Navy’s preferred alternative, from the Fallon Range Training Complex Modernization Final Environmental Impact Statement dated January 2020.

The Fallon Range Training Complex covers 232,000 acres in Nevada.

The AMA submitted comments in January conditionally supporting Alternative 3, because it was the option that would least disrupt OHV use in the Fallon area.

But the AMA also supported the position of local riders, who called for reconnection of cherry-stemmed routes that would be created by Alternative 3 and the creation of a special recreation area that would codify OHV use as “legitimate” outside the Navy’s expansion area.

The Navy agreed to continue the annual “Vegas to Reno” OHV event and, possibly, allow other OHV competition near three sections of the training area.

The Navy also removed a popular riding area—the Sand Springs Range and Fairview Peak—from the training area.
