AMA Seeks Volunteers In Every State

The AMA State Chapters and Volunteer Network is seeking volunteers in each state who are interested in becoming more involved with the organization.

There are three levels of involvement available.

Volunteer: The AMA is shepherding a pool of eager members willing to help out at races, rallies and other motorcycle events. Volunteers also are sometimes asked to attend nearby public hearings or town hall meetings to share the AMA point of view on issues affecting motorcyclists’ rights or the motorcycle lifestyle.

EAGLES: The AMA is training members who want to be better informed and more involved. “We need these well-trained volunteers to do things, such as leading other volunteers or meeting with elected representatives regarding motorcycle issues,” said Marie Wuelleh, AMA State Chapters and Volunteer Network manager.

Volunteers in this category must complete the AMA EAGLES (Education, Activism, Growth, Leadership, Expertise, Skills) training program, which provides volunteers the tools they need to be well informed about the AMA.

State Coordinators: AMA State Chapters Coordinators are AMA EAGLES members who have completed the E A G E and S sections of AMA EAGLES training and have completed, or are currently working on, the L (Leadership) segment.

In some states, the State Coordinator has already been selected. Other states still have vacancies for this very important volunteer position.

The coordinator serves as a liaison to the AMA. Working with the AMA, individual AMA members and AMA District membership, the coordinator is responsible for recognizing challenges and threats to motorcycling and the motorcycle lifestyle, disseminating information and identifying opportunities for AMA volunteers to make a difference in the motorcycling and greater community.

The time commitment for a coordinator will rise and fall, based on a number of factors, including issues facing motorcyclists in each state.

Wisconsin Coordinator Bryan Much

Bryan Much earned his AMA EAGLES certification in 2016 and was named state coordinator for AMA of Wisconsin, a volunteer position.

He was the first state coordinator named under the reconstituted AMA State Chapters and Volunteer Network program.

A motorcyclist for more than 40 years—on both pavement and dirt—Much currently rides a KTM 500 EXC and a Yamaha Super Ténéré. He logs many miles on his bikes and provides GPS routes for others to go on their own adventures at www.cannonshot.net.

Much is as serious about motorcyclists’ rights as he is about riding. He played a significant role in the recent decision by the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board to approved the use of ATVs and dirt bikes in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest.

Much creates trails, serves as the off-highway-motorcycle representative on the Governor’s State Trails Council, is on the Governor’s Off-Road Vehicle Council and communicates with other motorized trail user groups.
