Nine Companies Notify State Of Intent To Test
Nine companies have notified the Washington Department of Licensing that they plan to begin testing self-driving vehicles on state roads.
Waymo, NVIDIA, Torc Robotics, May Mobility, Navya Inc., Dooblai LLC and Simple Solutions said they are “self-certified” to safely test autonomous vehicle technology on public roads, according to a report by the NW News Network.
Two other companies—Daimler and Intel—notified the state Department of Transportation that they also will test autonomous vehicles on public roads.
The AMA believes companies are rushing the introduction of automated vehicles into everyday traffic, which could jeopardize motorcyclists’ safety.
In its position statement on Automated Vehicles and the Safety of Motorcyclists, the AMA urges the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to “test algorithms and software in highly automated vehicles to ensure that this new technology fully and effectively identifies and properly responds to motorcycles in all traffic situations.”
