Minnesota

A new law, called “Little Alan’s Law,” became effective Aug. 1 and includes additional penalties for anyone caught operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The penalties include the loss of their driver’s license and their privilege of operating ATVs, motorboats and snowmobiles. Before Aug. 1, those convicted of DWI could still operate ATVs, boats and snowmobiles. Off-road motorcycles are not covered by the law. The law is Minnesota Statute 84.91.

A.B. 4106, introduced by Assemblymen Bob Andrzejczak (D-Middle Township) and  R. Bruce Land (D-Vineland) would require the state Department of Environmental Protection to establish a program to allow events sanctioned by the AMA to be held in state parks, forests and wildlife management areas. The DEP would be required to establish regulations within one year of the effective date of the legislation and would be permitted to restrict events on sites that are habitat for protected animals or plants. The companion Senate bill (S.B. 2669) is sponsored by state Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis Township).
