Six Reasons Not To Miss MotoAmerica’s Indianapolis Round
MotoAmerica, the home of the AMA Superbike Championship, is set to host its first standalone event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Aug. 21-23.
The only other time MotoAmerica’s Superbike Class visited the Indiana facility’s 2.645-mile road course was in 2015, in conjunction with a round of the FIM MotoGP World Championship.
For 2020, all five MotoAmerica competition classes take to the Brickyard circuit, in addition to a host of fan activities inside and outside the historic venue, similar to what the series is doing at other 2020 events.
“If we can involve more elements of the motorcycling community and get everyone together in one place, it will make for a better event, better atmosphere and more entertainment in general for the fans to be engaged,” MotoAmerica Chief Operations Officer Chuck Aksland said.
Here are six reasons to put MotoAmerica’s Superbikes at the Brickyard event on your calendar.
Championship battles: The Indianapolis event is Round 8 of 10 on MotoAmerica’s 2020 schedule, which means the battles for all five competition classes (Superbike, Supersport, Stock 1000, Twins Cup and Junior Cup) and the new-for-2020 Superbike Cup will likely be coming to a crescendo. You’ll get to watch all the on-track drama unfold from within one of racing’s most hallowed venues.
MotoAmerica Heritage Cup: The Indianapolis event is the last of three rounds in MotoAmerica’s Heritage Cup series. The exhibition competition pits vintage road racing motorcycles (1986 or older) being pushed to their limits at the Brickyard, which hosted its first motorcycle competition in 1909.
Flat track racing: Road racing isn’t the only competition on tap at the Brickyard. Make sure you get over to the dirt oval track inside Turn 3 on Friday and Saturday night to enjoy AMA-sanctioned flat track racing. Friday’s night action features amateur flat track competition, and Saturday evening’s contest is a points-paying round of the AMA All-Star National Flat Track Series.
The Miracle Mile charity ride: MotoAmerica is teaming up with the Miracle Ride Foundation to put on a charity ride. The foundation’s annual flagship charity ride raises money for Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis and attracts about 3,000 to 4,000 motorcyclists.
Swap meet: Vintage bikes, parts accessories and more will be for sale at a swap meet.
Kids’ activities: Activities on tap for MotoAmerica’s youngest fans include a variety of games and rides. There also will be a kids’ bike course where kids will have a chance to try out small push bikes and battery-powered Stacyc stability cycles.
