One person was shot by police and five were arrested in February when Massachusetts State Police confronted more than 20 motorcyclists and ATV riders authorities said were riding recklessly and weaving through traffic on Interstate 93, according to a report by NECN.com.

Police seized about 20 vehicles.

Troopers observed the group about 5 p.m. near Exit 18 traveling in a dangerous manner. Twenty-five to 35 riders scattered as police tried to get the situation under control. One motorcyclist tried to ride on the median to escape, according to reports.

The incident stalled traffic on the highway. Police received numerous 911 calls from motorists reporting the disruption.

Cities across the country have encountered groups of riders on motorcycles and ATVs who snarl traffic, perform stunts and ride recklessly. Law enforcement authorities often are at a loss to contain the riders.

The safety of all road users is of the utmost concern, and the AMA does not support actions by any road users that violate the law.
