U.S. Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) addresses the U.S. Senate Motorcycle Caucus.

The U.S. Senate Motorcycle Caucus focused on the latest developments in autonomous vehicle technology during its first-ever meeting, held in February.

“Most of the discussion centered around motorcycle recognition with the new technology and driver reliance on the assist functions,” said Wayne Allard, AMA vice president of government relations. “There were brief remarks on the autonomous vehicle legislation moving through the Senate that has language requiring motorcycle recognition. A similar bill in the House does not contain the motorcycle language.”

U.S. Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.)—both lifelong motorcyclists—formed the caucus in 2017.
