Adventure riding is about exploring the unknown, and challenging yourself in the process. It’s arguably the fastest-growing segment of street (and sometimes dirt) riding.
The KTM AMA National Adventure Riding Series, presented by Kenda Tires, is the easiest way to get involved, with 20 stops from the East Coast to the West Coast.
All bikes are welcome to participate (limited only by the skill of the rider), but KTM continues to support the series. Of course, the Austrian company offers a full line-up of adventure class bikes, including the 1090 Adventure R and the 1290 Super Adventure R.
“We saw fantastic growth in the series in 2017,” said KTM Ride Orange Manager Mark Hyde. “Our staff had a great time meeting the riders at many of the national adventure rides this year and we have expanded our staff to support even more events next year.”
It all kicks off on April 14-15 in Bybee, Tenn., at the Slate Creek Adventure Ride, hosted by the Appalachian Trail Riders.
In addition to KTM and Kenda Tires, the series is sponsored by ADVmoto, IMS Products and Seat Concepts.
…And Maybe Win Stuff
Participants in the series have an opportunity to win one of several prizes, including the grand prize, a full-expense-paid trip to the 2019 KTM East Coast Adventure Rally.
Additional prizes include a seat from Seat Concepts and IMS adventure footpegs. And AMA members also get a 20 percent discount off a subscription to ADVmoto Magazine.
The winner of the 2017 grand prize—a trip to this year’s KTM East Coast Adventure Rider Rally on May 19-20 in Snow Shoe, W.Va.—was Spurgeon Dunbar of Fogelsville, Pa. The rally is hosted by Pine Barrens Adventures LLC, and KTM will provide additional support.
In addition to getting the full factory treatment from KTM, Dunbar will hang out with eight-time AMA National Enduro Champion Mike Lafferty and the rest of the KTM staff.
“From the multiple events that I attended throughout 2017, it was amazing to see the level of dedication and support that KTM is delivering to really try to grow a sport that we all love,” Dunbar said.
Dunbar added that he hoped to use the opportunity to expose someone else to adventure riding.
“I plan on working with KTM to bring along a friend who has never ridden an adventure bike before, in an effort to introduce someone new to the world of adventure riding,” Dunbar said.
Other 2017 winners included Joseph Alderson of Houston, Texas, who won a Seat Concepts seat.
Jeff Giannobile of Jamestown, Ohio, and Yossi Butbul of Cherry Hill, N.J., each won a pair of Sidi boots.
